This story at a glance…
The NSA is launching No Such Podcast, revealing declassified stories and insights into intelligence and cybersecurity.
Over a decade after Edward Snowden’s leaks, the agency is sharing its side through weekly episodes on popular platforms.
It’s an attempt to reshape its image and highlight its behind-the-scenes work.
The podcast will feature six weekly episodes available on platforms like Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
NSA’s New “No Such Podcast”
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be on the inside of one of the world’s most secretive agencies? Well, now’s your chance to find out! The National Security Agency (NSA) will let you listen in with their brand-new podcast, cheekily named No Such Podcast.
Why the name? It's a nod to the agency’s old nickname, “No Such Agency,” which was used by insiders who joked about its secretive nature. But now, they're turning the tables, inviting us all to eavesdrop on them. The first two episodes dropped on September 5th, and the third one just came out on Thursday.
From Secrets to Soundwaves
For decades, the NSA has been about as chatty as a rock. Then came Edward Snowden in 2013, revealing just how much the agency was listening to us. The whole world was shocked to discover that the NSA had been spying on American citizens. The agency’s reputation took a nosedive, and it hasn't quite climbed out of that rut — until now, perhaps.
Enter No Such Podcast, which will feature stories about some of the NSA’s most secretive missions, told by the experts themselves. The pilot episode kicks things off with a declassified account of the NSA's role in tracking down Osama bin Laden, the notorious mastermind behind the September 11, 2001 attacks. Talk about starting with a bang!
The podcast doesn’t stop there. Upcoming episodes will feature interviews with NSA experts on cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and even advanced research. Six episodes are set to drop every week through mid-October. For those curious about the secretive world of signals intelligence, this could be your chance to hear the stories the NSA actually wants you to hear.
From Spy-Fi to Hi-Fi
The idea of a federal agency trying to control its own narrative isn’t new. In fact, the FBI was making media waves back in the 1930s with a popular radio series called "The Lucky Strike Hour." Fast forward to the 1940s, and the FBI was still at it with "This is Your FBI," a crime drama series complete with J. Edgar Hoover’s personal endorsement.
Now, the NSA is getting in on the action, albeit with a modern twist. They’re bringing their stories to your favorite podcast platforms, from Apple Podcasts and Spotify to YouTube and Pocket Casts.
A Chance to Tell Their Side of the Story
According to Sara Siegle, the NSA’s chief of strategic communications, the podcast represents an effort to "start telling more stories that we can talk about." Because let's face it, they can't talk about everything—like those classified files buried deep in some undisclosed basement. Still, Siegle wants to shine a light on the “incredible public servants” who work behind the scenes.
Reflection
As Christians, we’re encouraged to listen—not just to speak. Proverbs 18:13 tells us, "To answer before listening—that is folly and shame." In a world filled with noise and competing narratives, maybe it's time we did a little more listening, even to the stories that surprise us, challenge us, or come from unexpected places. Because sometimes, what we hear when we really listen can change everything.
